The short version. Carrot Counter has no sign-up, no email address and no password. It keeps a random ID, the name you choose, and your carrot counts. Photos only leave your phone if you share them to a bunch. There is no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. You can delete everything from inside the app.
Carrot Counter is made by Steve Warrender, an individual based in the UK. I am the person responsible for your data under UK data protection law. You can reach me at carrotcounter.support@gmail.com.
Web app only: if you turn on reminders, I also keep your time zone, your chosen reminder time and the technical address your browser gives me for sending notifications. On iPhone, the optional daily reminder is scheduled on your phone itself: the time you pick is not sent to me.
Camera and photos: the app asks to use the camera only when you tap to take a photo. It reads only the photos you pick.
Like any online service, the servers that host the app receive your IP address when your device connects. I do not use it to identify you.
To run the app: to add up your counts, show them to your bunches, and keep them if you change phone. To keep bunches safe: to deal with reports of photos or people. I do not sell your data, share it for advertising, or use it to build a profile of you.
Under UK data protection law, my grounds are that this is needed to provide the app you asked for, and my legitimate interest in keeping it safe for everyone in it.
These companies may handle data outside the UK. Each publishes its own data protection terms.
Until you delete your account. In the app, go to Settings, Clearing data, Delete my account. On the web app it is in the same place. That removes your name, counts, badges, bunch memberships, shared photos, votes and the reports you made. If you ran a bunch, it passes to its longest-standing member, or is deleted if nobody else is in it.
Two things can outlast that. A record of reports and of what I did about them (the person's name at the time, the bunch, the action and the date) may be kept so I can show that reports were dealt with. And backups, if any, can hold deleted data for a short while. If you want a record about you removed, email me.
"Erase all counts and photos" in Settings clears your counts but keeps your account. Deleting the app from your phone does not delete your account, so use Delete my account first.
You can ask to see what I hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how I use it, or have a copy you can move elsewhere. Most of this you can do yourself in the app. For anything else, email carrotcounter.support@gmail.com and I will reply within a month. If you are unhappy with my answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Carrot Counter is not aimed at children under 13 and is not in the App Store's Kids category. If you are a parent and a young child has an account, email me and I will delete it.
Everything travels over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, and I cannot promise otherwise.
If this changes in a way that matters, I will update the date at the top and tell you in the app.
